President conveys condolences following passing of renowned filmmaker Nimal

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed condolences to the family of renowned Maldivian filmmaker and actor, Ahmed Nimal, following his passing.
In a message shared on X, the President noted that Nimal was a recipient of the National Award of Recognition and extended sympathies to his family and loved ones. The President also offered prayers for the late filmmaker.
Nimal, aged 62, was admitted to IGMH after suffering a stroke earlier this week. He was widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Maldivian cinema, with a career spanning several decades as an actor and director.
He made his film debut in the mid-1980s and went on to appear in a number of notable productions, later gaining recognition for his work behind the camera. In 1991, Nimal was awarded the National Award of Recognition in acknowledgement of his contributions to the Maldivian film industry.
Nimal was also involved in television production and became known to wider audiences through several locally produced programmes. His work is regarded as influential in shaping the early development of the country’s film and television sector.
