Member of Parliament Ibrahim Shujau of Baarah constituency has declared that preventing state bankruptcy is a significant achievement of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's Administration.

Speaking on MMTV's Rahyithunge Dhifaaugai programme last night, MP Shujau addressed opposition claims that the Maldives would face bankruptcy due to outstanding foreign loans.

"Whether difficult to accept or not, averting state bankruptcy is President Dr Muizzu's achievement. This is an irrefutable fact. Even now, some are hoping for this nation's bankruptcy – but who suffers from such an outcome?" he remarked.

Shujau noted that whilst the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had advised reducing State expenditure, the previous administration instead used increased tax revenue for political appointments.

"Maintaining State solvency without printing currency or raising prices, whilst meeting loan repayments and sustaining citizen services – this is a genuine achievement," he emphasised.

As yesterday was National Fishermen's Day, MP Shujau highlighted the Administration's unprecedented steps to empower the fishing community.

He explained that fishermen had been misled with unrealistic price promises ranging from MVR 15 to MVR 25, with unfulfilled commitments causing significant hardship.

Since December 9, the Government has cleared over MVR 250 million in outstanding payments from both the previous administration and recent MIFCO purchases. A new 48-hour payment system for fish deliveries has also been implemented
