State Electric Company (STELCO) has been awarded the contract to provide electricity, water, and sewerage services in Kaafu Huraa, taking over responsibilities previously managed by Fenaka Corporation.

The agreement was signed at STELCO headquarters, with Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah signing on behalf of Fenaka and Stelco Deputy Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar representing STELCO.

As part of the transition, 32 Fenaka employees who had been providing services in Huraa have now been transferred to STELCO. The company noted that this move aligns Huraa with other islands in Kaafu Atoll, where STELCO already provides utility services.

Speaking at the ceremony, Huraa Constituency MP Anara Naeem described the transfer as a “long-standing hope” of the people of Huraa, adding that the change will strengthen services and bring development to the island.

Fenaka MD Najah said the transfer followed extensive discussions and marks a “new chapter” for Huraa with improved services. STELCO's Deputy MD Dr Azwar, assured that the company will deliver services to the same standard as in other islands, noting that planning has already begun for further development projects.

Currently, STELCO provides electricity to 36 islands, water to 25 islands, and sewerage services to 24 islands across Greater Malé Region, Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, and Vaavu Atolls.
