Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has formalised the Maldives’ participation in Belgrade Expo 2027, following the conclusion of the Second Annual Planning Meeting held in Belgrade.

The participation agreement was signed by CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, marking the transition from the planning stage to preparations for the Maldives’ presence at the international event.

Belgrade Expo 2027 will be held from 15 May to 15 August 2027 under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.” The event is expected to bring together more than 120 participating countries and over four million visitors, making it one of the largest international gatherings scheduled for the region.

According to Visit Maldives Corporation, preparations will now begin to develop the Maldives’ national presence at the Expo, with plans to highlight the country’s tourism sector, environmental initiatives and cultural identity.

The corporation said participation in the event will also allow the Maldives to engage with new audiences in the Balkan and wider European markets, while contributing to international dialogue through the Expo’s thematic areas including Play for Progress, Play Together and the Power of Play.

VMC stated that preparations for the event are being coordinated with relevant government institutions, while discussions will continue with the Belgrade Expo organising committee on the development of the Maldives’ pavilion and programme for the event.
