Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded projects to upgrade harbours in Raa Maduvvari and Haa Alifu Utheemu, with works set to enhance marine infrastructure and coastal protection in the two islands.
The agreement was signed by State Minister for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Hassan Rasheed on behalf of the Government, while Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf signed on behalf of MTCC.
Under the Maduvvari North Harbor Project, works will include backfilling 11,050 cubic metres of sand and carrying out maintenance dredging, along with the construction of 308 metres of quay wall, installation of 77 mooring rings, 11 harbour lights, and the development of concrete pavement and drainage systems, in addition to a 184-metre rock breakwater and a 25-metre rock revetment. The project is scheduled for completion within 360 days.
The Utheemu Harbor and Shore Protection Project will involve dredging of the harbour and access channel, land reclamation, and construction of quay walls, mooring facilities, drainage systems, harbour lights and pavements, alongside additional works including ramp construction, renovation of existing harbour structures and installation of large rock breakwaters, revetments and groynes.
MTCC has been assigned a completion period of 510 days for the Utheemu project, which forms part of ongoing efforts to improve harbour infrastructure and coastal resilience across the atolls.
