President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the launch of a social housing project aimed at supporting the families of martyrs who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Reflecting on the tragic events of November 3, 1988, when 19 Maldivians—including eight soldiers and 11 civilians—lost their lives, President Dr Muizzu emphasised the government's commitment to honouring those who have served and sacrificed.

The President highlighted that over the past 40 years, 29 soldiers and two police personnel have been martyred in various incidents, yet little has been done to support their families. He lamented the lack of assistance provided in recent years, stating, the government used to give any kind of monetary help to the families of martyrs, but that has since stopped. To rectify this, he pledged that the Government would provide a permanent special allowance to the families of martyrs starting next year, along with financial support for recipients of the Medal for Exceptional Bravery.

In addition to financial assistance, President Dr Muizzu announced the construction of "Shaheedhunge Hiyaa," which will consist of 50 housing units dedicated to the families of those who have fallen in service to the nation. He acknowledged that while such efforts cannot erase the pain endured by these families, they represent a crucial step towards honouring their sacrifices. He added that nothing can compensate for struggles of the families, and that this is the least the Government can do.

Furthermore, President Dr Muizzu outlined plans to enhance the training and skill development of those entering the armed forces and police services. He expressed the government's resolve to create a career path within these services that fosters satisfaction and growth. In collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, various career paths and capacity-building initiatives will be established for current and new personnel.

The President also shared updates on the development of air bases in both the southern and northern regions of the Maldives, highlighting the Government's commitment to strengthening national security and operational capabilities. As these initiatives unfold, President Dr Muizzu reiterated the importance of supporting those who serve and protecting the legacy of the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the nation.
