President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment site to assess progress of the ongoing project to upgrade one of Malé’s main arterial roads.
The President was received by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib and Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), DCP (Retd.) Ahmed Saudee. During the visit, he was briefed on the progress of Phase One works, including multiple segments of the project area extending from Izzudheen Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
The project focuses on upgrading the road to modern standards, including widening sections, resurfacing with asphalt and introducing a comprehensive drainage system, with the aim of easing congestion and improving overall movement for both motorists and pedestrians.
Earlier stages of the project included expanding parts of the road to four lanes through land reclamation near the Local Market area and Izzudheen Jetty, which were completed and opened in December 2025. Additional works along the southern side of the corridor, including the stretch towards the Fish Market, were completed and opened to the public in early 2026.
The redevelopment, awarded to MTCC in April 2025, is part of efforts to improve urban infrastructure in the capital. Officials have indicated that work on remaining sections is ongoing, with completion of the overall project expected by June, alongside additional improvements to support traffic flow and accessibility.
