The Maldives participates in the 52nd session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland.
The session, which commenced at the Palais des Nations, will continue until May 15, during which the human rights records of 14 countries will be reviewed by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldivian delegation will engage in the session by contributing to discussions and providing recommendations to the states under review, in line with the Government’s policy priorities.
The UPR is a peer-review mechanism conducted under the UN framework, through which all member states undergo periodic assessments of their human rights performance. The current fourth cycle of the review process began in 2022 and is set to continue until 2027.
The Maldivian delegation is led by Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr Salma Rasheed, and includes officials from the country’s permanent mission in Geneva.
