President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldivian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand.

The official appointment ceremony took place this morning at the President’s Office, where the President formally presented Fuad with his credentials.

A seasoned administrator and diplomat, Fuad brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held key positions at the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Fuad is best known for his leadership as Chairman of the Elections Commission, where he oversaw the Maldives' first multi-party presidential election during the country’s transition to democracy. His tenure at the Commission, spanning multiple terms, concluded in November 2023 after two five-year terms, cementing his legacy as a pivotal figure in Maldivian public service.
