PNC thanks North Hithadhoo voters following by-election result

The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has thanked voters in the North Hithadhoo constituency for their support following the parliamentary by-election held on Saturday.

In a statement issued after the release of provisional results, the party expressed gratitude to supporters who voted for PNC candidate Ahmed Saeed during the poll.

PNC said Saeed secured victories in three of the five ballot boxes in Hithadhoo and one of the two ballot boxes in Malé. The party also noted that it won the majority of ballot boxes in Hithadhoo and led the overall vote count in Addu City by 34 votes.The part stated that the result demonstrated strong support for the party despite opposition groups backing a common candidate during the election.

Provisional results released by the Elections Commission show that Abdulla Sodhiq of the Maldivian Democratic Party(MDP) won the seat with 1,375 votes, while Ahmed Saeed received 1,313 votes. Sodhiq secured victory by a margin of 62 votes.

Following the result, the PNC continues to hold a supermajority in Parliament with 74 members, while the MDP holds 13 seats.

The party also highlighted its performance in recent elections, noting that it secured the highest number of seats in the latest local council elections and several by-elections held in recent months.
