Football fans in Hulhumalé will be able to watch all FIFA World Cup matches free of charge at three public screening locations set up by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in collaboration with Public Service Media (PSM).
HDC said large screens have been installed at Central Park and the tent area near Flat 137 in Hulhumalé Phase I, as well as the Ramadan Market tent area in front of Vinares Tower 9 in Hulhumalé Phase II. All matches of this year's tournament will be shown live at the three venues.
HDC stated that the initiative aims to provide residents with a safe and accessible environment to watch the matches while creating opportunities for the community to come together during the tournament. The corporation noted that the designated viewing areas can accommodate large numbers of spectators at the same time.
The FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, gets underway at midnight Maldives time. The opening match will be played between Mexico and South Africa, while the tournament is scheduled to conclude next month.
In Malé, free public screenings of World Cup matches are also being held at the Youth Hub, where a range of activities and entertainment programmes have been planned alongside the tournament.
