The Maldives has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, stability and regional cooperation during the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum held in Kunming, China.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in safeguarding international peace and security. She also stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation and collective action to address the increasingly complex challenges facing the international community.
Addressing the forum under the theme of strengthening cooperative partnerships and building a shared future with neighbouring countries, minister Iruthisham said no country could overcome global challenges alone and emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving lasting peace and prosperity.
The minister also noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China in 2024 further strengthened the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and China and elevated bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. She expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the Government and people of Yunnan Province and reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to further expanding cooperation with China across a range of sectors.
In addition to attending the forum, minister Iruthisham participated in the opening ceremony of the 10th China-South Asia Expo and visited exhibition stalls operated by Maldivian businesses taking part in this year's event.
