The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network has recorded 1.6 million passenger trips since its introduction, according to the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade.

The figure was shared by Deputy Minister Ibrahim Yasir during the ministry's "Trade Desk with ANA" programme, where updates were provided on projects and initiatives being implemented by the ministry and agencies operating under it. Yasir said statistics collected through the RTL system show that the service has been used 1.6 million times over the past four years.

The ministry said the highest number of trips has been recorded in Zone One, which covers Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls. Yasir said an average of around 1,000 passengers use the ferry network in the zone each day, adding that it remains one of the best-performing RTL service areas.

RTL services are operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) using high-speed ferries. Initially launched in three atolls, the network has since expanded to 15 atolls as part of the Government's plan to establish a nationwide sea transport system linking islands and atolls.

The Government aims to extend the service to the remaining five atolls before the end of the year. Yasir said services in the next atoll are expected to commence before the end of June, while work is continuing to introduce RTL services in areas where the network has yet to be launched.
