President extends Islamic New Year greetings

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his greetings on the occasion of the commencement of the Islamic New Year.

In a message shared to mark the occasion, President Dr Muizzu described the beginning of the new Hijri year as the start of a significant period for the Maldives, noting that the country will commemorate 900 years since embracing Islam during the year.

The President expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for preserving the Maldives' Islamic faith throughout the centuries. He also prayed for continued peace, prosperity and well-being for the Maldivian people.

The Maldives is set to commemorate the 900th anniversary of its conversion to Islam during the new Hijri year, with various events expected to be organised to mark the historic milestone.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also conveyed her greetings on the occasion of the Islamic New Year.

In a message shared on social media, she expressed praise and gratitude to Almighty Allah for the blessings bestowed upon the Maldivian nation and its people over the past year, while welcoming the arrival of Hijri year 1448.
