Mohamed Nizar --

Parliament has approved the appointment of Mohamed Nizar as President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), more than a year after he was appointed to the position by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Nizar was appointed as PCB President on 30 April last year following the resignation of former PCB President Mohamed Anas. As required under the law, his nomination was later submitted to Parliament for approval. The nomination was reviewed by Parliament's State-Owned Enterprises Committee, which recommended that Nizar be approved before the appointment was unanimously endorsed by all 49 members present during the sitting.

Nizar brings more than three decades of experience in international trade, corporate management and public sector administration. He previously served as PCB President from 2014 to 2019, where he played a key role in implementing the Government's privatisation and corporatisation agenda and strengthening governance across State-owned enterprises.

Before joining the PCB, Nizar spent more than 20 years at the State Trading Organisation (STO), holding senior positions including General Manager and Deputy Director. He was involved in several major projects during his tenure, including enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, supply chain improvements and initiatives to strengthen international trade partnerships.

Nizar has also served on the boards of several companies, including Maldives Gas Private Limited and Maldives Structural Products Private Limited, and has contributed to national committees focused on risk management, procurement and corporate governance. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia.
