The People's National Congress (PNC) has assured party members that its constituency elections next month will be transparent and impartial, with no interference from the party's leadership.

The elections are scheduled for 11 July, with applications for party positions to be submitted through the party's online portal. Only members registered with the PNC by 15 June will be eligible to contest and vote.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, MP for Milandhoo Constituency Hassan Mufeed Abdul Gadir said the party's leadership would not interfere in the electoral process. He said the elections would be held in accordance with the party's constitution and that the leadership has consistently stressed the importance of ensuring a free and transparent election during meetings of the Election Committee.

Mufeed also encouraged prospective candidates to submit their applications well before the deadline, saying this would allow enough time to address any issues that may arise. He added that the response from members wishing to contest had so far been encouraging.

Also speaking on the programme, PNC MP for South Fuvahmulah Constituency Ibrahim Hussain said the constituency elections would play an important role in strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 presidential election. He said the PNC is the country's largest political party and expressed confidence that the elections would strengthen the party's membership and expand its activities across the atolls.

Following the constituency elections, the party's Senate is scheduled to convene from 15 to 18 September.
