The number of tourists arriving in the Maldives from India has surpassed 100,000 this year, further strengthening India's position as one of the country's leading tourism markets.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation show 1,036,558 tourists had visited the Maldives as of 24 June. China remained the largest source market with 162,305 arrivals, followed by Russia with 144,552. The United Kingdom recorded 84,787 visitors, while Italy welcomed 72,802, Germany 65,888, India [exact figure] and France 29,374.

Resorts continued to account for the majority of tourist accommodation, with 71.8 per cent of visitors choosing to stay at resort properties.

The Maldives reached the one million tourist milestone despite challenges affecting international travel, including disruptions to regional air routes caused by the conflict in the Middle East. In response, Visit Maldives intensified promotional activities in key markets such as India, China and Russia while also expanding into new source markets.

The ministry said surpassing one million arrivals despite the global challenges reflects the combined efforts of tourism industry stakeholders to sustain growth and strengthen the Maldives' tourism sector.
