Minister of Economic Development, Transport, and Trade, Mohamed Saeed has said that since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assumed the leadership of the People's National Congress (PNC), the party has fostered a culture that empowers its ordinary members and provides them with greater opportunities.

Speaking to MMTV, Minister Saeed said one of the most common concerns raised in Maldivian politics has been the lack of opportunities for younger generations. He said President Dr Muizzu's assumption of office marked the beginning of a significant change, describing it as the start of transferring leadership opportunities to a new generation.

Minister Saeed said President Dr Muizzu recognised from the outset that the Government's foremost responsibility was to listen to the people and formulate policies based on their concerns. He said the President travelled to islands across the Maldives to meet residents, hear their views and gather their ideas and recommendations before shaping Government policies.

He further said that after returning to Malé, President Dr Muizzu prioritised addressing the concerns raised by the public through the Cabinet and the party, adding that this approach had contributed to the PNC's strong performance in subsequent elections.

Referring to the party's internal election held today, Minister Saeed said the process demonstrated the maturity of the PNC's internal system compared to other political parties with similar ideologies. He noted that there was no leadership-backed candidate list and that ordinary party members were given complete freedom to choose their preferred candidates.

Minister Saeed also highlighted that both the administrative and technical aspects of the party's internal election were managed by young party members. He said this reflected the party's commitment to empowering its members and creating opportunities for broader participation.

He added that from training for the election to managing logistics and the overall election system, young members played a leading role throughout the process. Minister Saeed said the party provides space for ordinary members to participate actively and maintains a culture where members are encouraged to express their views and where those views are heard.

Highlighting the party's internal culture, Minister Saeed said practices commonly seen during internal elections of some other political parties were absent from the PNC's internal election because of the positive culture established within the party.
