The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that 90 per cent of the first phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project has now been completed.

MTCC said quay wall capping concrete works under the project have been completed, while other major construction works are progressing steadily.

The first phase covers five segments extending from the Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. Asphalt paving on Segments 4 and 5 has been completed, with the installation of road signs, street lights and traffic signboards currently underway.

The company said sub-base works and Aggregate Base Course (ABC) laying are scheduled to be completed on 12 July, while asphalt paving on Segments 2 and 3 is expected to be completed within the week.

MTCC said the road will be opened to the public once asphalt paving is completed.

The redevelopment project includes road widening and the installation of a modern drainage system to improve traffic flow and address long-standing flooding issues along the capital's main coastal road.

Although the first phase was initially scheduled for completion in June, MTCC now expects the works to be completed by 26 July.
