The Government has reviewed preliminary findings from the Maldives Climate Public Expenditure and Institutional Review (CPEIR), which examines climate-related public spending, policies and institutional arrangements.
The findings were discussed and validated during a joint meeting between the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. The review assesses climate-related allocations in the State budget between 2022 and 2025, as well as how those funds have been utilised.
The CPEIR is being developed under the Maldives National Adaptation Plan (NAP) project with financial support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and technical assistance from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The review is expected to identify challenges in climate financing, budget implementation and institutional arrangements, helping to strengthen policies supporting climate action. The Environment Ministry said the findings would also support the Maldives' efforts to secure financing from international climate funds and other development partners
