The Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives and Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives to expand employment and training opportunities for Maldivian youth in the tourism sector.
The agreement was signed under the Sustainable and Integrated Labour Services (SAILS) Project, a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at strengthening the skills of the Maldivian workforce and improving links between job seekers and employers. The project is scheduled to run until June 2027.
Under the partnership, young Maldivians will have access to technical skills training, career guidance, internships and apprenticeship programmes. Internship placements lasting three to six months will be offered to higher education students and recent graduates, while a one-year apprenticeship programme will be available for students who have completed their GCE O'Level examinations.
Participants who successfully complete the programmes will be eligible for permanent employment opportunities at Centara's resorts, based on their performance. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the tourism workforce by providing practical workplace experience while creating more employment opportunities for Maldivians.
