The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has launched the AguMagu mobile application, a new platform designed to improve price transparency by allowing consumers to compare the prices of goods sold across the Maldives.
The AguMagu price comparison portal was first introduced on 28 February 2025, initially providing price information from shops in Malé. With the launch of the mobile application, the service has now been expanded to include participating retailers in islands across the atolls.
The ministry said the app enables users to access up-to-date prices of everyday items in one place, making it easier to compare prices before making purchases. Consumers can also view the lowest, average and highest prices of products available at different shops, as well as monitor price changes over the previous 10 days.
The app also allows users to identify where products are being sold at the most competitive prices before travelling to a particular island. In addition, users can receive notifications whenever the prices of selected products increase or decrease.
AguMagu includes a shopping list feature that allows users to save lists of frequently purchased items and check the estimated total cost at any time. The app can also identify the combination of shops offering the lowest overall cost for an entire shopping list, while highlighting the retailers with the best prices for individual items.
The ministry said the application is intended to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions while promoting greater price transparency and competition in the retail market.
