The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) will conduct a survey this month on spending by Maldivians travelling overseas.

The annual survey is aimed to collect information required to compile the Maldives’ balance of payments statistics. It will target Maldivians returning to the country after travelling abroad.

“Maldivians Travelling Abroad”, the survey will be conducted from 25 to 31 of this month at the arrivals hall of Velana International Airport.

Information collected will include the main purpose of travel, the country visited, airfare, accommodation expenses, medical expenses and the total amount spent during the trip.

The MMA has assured that the survey will not collect personal information such as participants’ names or addresses. All information gathered will remain confidential.

MMA employees will be stationed at the airport’s arrivals hall during the survey period to collect the required information. They urged all Maldivians returning to the country during this period to fully cooperate with the survey.
