The Maldives recorded 22 new measles cases over the past week, down from 23 cases reported the previous week, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 166.  

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the decline comes as the nationwide vaccination campaign continues, with 9,918 people vaccinated so far. The programme targets individuals who have not been vaccinated against measles or are unsure of their vaccination status.

Health authorities have continued surveillance measures, including identifying confirmed cases, tracing close contacts, administering vaccinations where necessary and raising public awareness to help limit further transmission. The agency's latest figures indicate a gradual decline in newly reported cases.

The HPA has advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, red rash, cough or red eyes to seek medical attention promptly. It also urged people who have been in contact with an infected person to notify the relevant health authorities and encouraged those who remain unvaccinated, particularly individuals with weakened immune systems, to complete their vaccination.

The Maldives' vaccination campaign has also been supported by international partners. UNICEF donated 28,000 doses of the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine and medical consumables, following an earlier donation of 20,000 doses of the MR vaccine and three tonnes of medical supplies from the Government of India.
