The Greater Malé Area will be designated as a Registration Control Zone as part of a series of transport reforms aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving mobility across the region.

The proposed reforms were presented at the 25th meeting of the Business Council, chaired by Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed. During the meeting, council members reviewed the latest developments in the land transport sector under the Greater Malé Transport and Mobility Office and discussed measures proposed under the Greater Malé Mobility Framework.

The Government said that addressing traffic congestion in the Greater Malé Area is a national priority identified by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Minister Saeed said the Registration Control Zone would be introduced through a whole-of-Government approach, with relevant State institutions working together to deliver sustainable and effective mobility solutions.

The proposed Registration Control Zone forms part of wider reforms under the Greater Malé Mobility Framework, which aims to improve the transport system across the capital region and reduce congestion through long-term, coordinated planning.
