Police Memorial Day 2026 was commemorated on Thursday morning with a special ceremony at Iskandhar Koshi to honour Maldives Police Service officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan attended the ceremony alongside Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, senior police officials, police officers and police civil staff. A moment of silence was observed at the memorial wall in remembrance of the fallen officers, followed by a special prayer in recognition of their sacrifice and service.

Observed annually on 23 July, Police Memorial Day was established under a special order issued on 16 June 2013 to recognise the sacrifices made by police officers who die while carrying out their duties. The Maldives Police Service said the fallen officers' legacy continues to inspire future generations of police officers to serve with honour, integrity and dedication.

The commemoration was first established in memory of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem, who was killed in the line of duty on 23 July 2012 after being attacked while carrying out official duties in Kaafu Kaashidhoo. His death marked the first time a Maldives Police Service officer was killed in the line of duty since the service was established.
