The Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Project (Phase 1) is expected to be completed by 26 July, with most major works finished ahead of the revised completion date.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said road marking works have been fully completed, while construction of the parking zone and sidewalks on Segments 2 and 3 has also been completed. Remaining finishing works are being carried out, with parking zone markings and lighting installations scheduled for completion within the week.

MTCC said the project timeline was revised due to various challenges during implementation, but the works are now progressing towards early completion.

Speaking on the fourth episode of The Pulse podcast, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said the project will improve access to Malé’s market area and commercial district while making travel across the city easier. He added that the road widening works will not affect harbour operations, as the reclaimed area is being developed with quay walls on three sides to provide additional berthing space for vessels.

The 830-metre Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, which began in August 2025, includes road widening, modern drainage infrastructure and upgraded traffic management measures to improve traffic flow. The project also involves 737 metres of sheet piling.

Sections near Izzuddin Jetty and the local market have already reopened to traffic, with the remaining section expected to open on the Maldives’ Independence Day.
