President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Fitness and Recreation Centres (FRCs) being developed across the Maldives will be completed by November 2027, ensuring every inhabited island has access to a modern sports and recreational facility.

Speaking in the fifth episode of The Pulse, the President outlined the Government's ongoing efforts to expand sports infrastructure and create more opportunities for young people. He said the completion of the current projects would significantly strengthen sports infrastructure nationwide, with every inhabited island equipped with a modern Fitness and Recreation Centre.

The President also announced plans to establish indoor gaming centres at Sultan Park and Hulhumalé, alongside a dedicated racing and drifting track. Land has also been allocated in Hulhumalé for a modern go-kart arena, with all of these projects expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted the Youth Centre developed on the site of the former Muleeaage garage, describing it as a well-utilised facility designed to serve young people of all ages. He added that construction of indoor sports complexes is progressing across 15 islands and, once completed, each complex will accommodate around 1,200 spectators, further enhancing sports facilities in the atolls.

The President said funding has been secured and agreements are being finalised to establish similar youth hubs beyond Malé and Hulhumalé, expanding access to dedicated youth spaces throughout the country.

He also provided updates on several other major sports infrastructure projects, including an international-standard surfing stadium at Raalhugandu, an indoor bowling arena in Hulhumalé where land has been allocated and the contractor appointed, international-standard futsal and netball stadiums, indoor gaming centres in Sultan Park and Hulhumalé, a racing and drifting track, and a modern go-kart arena in Hulhumalé.

The Government says it is undertaking its largest-ever investment in sports infrastructure, with the aim of expanding sporting opportunities nationwide and encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles among young people.
