The newly upgraded section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé has been opened to the public, providing a wider four-lane roadway between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Izzuddin Jetty area.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said the upgraded stretch is now accessible, although several minor works are still being completed. These include installing railings along stairways leading to the shoreline and placing red-painted kerbstones near the steps to improve visibility and safety.

As part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, landscaping efforts are also continuing. MTCC said more than 3,100 trees have so far been planted along the corridor from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Malé North Harbour.

The tree-planting initiative forms part of the greening of the newly completed road section and is linked to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's national programme to plant five million trees, launched to mark World Environment Day 2024.

The upgraded section was widened to four lanes after land reclamation along parts of the coastline, followed by road construction and surfacing. Parking is prohibited along the newly opened stretch to ensure smooth traffic flow.

To accommodate cyclists, a dedicated parking area with space for 500 motorcycles has also been established opposite the Bank of Maldives.
