Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has said the completion of the first phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment demonstrates the Government's commitment to delivering projects that meet the needs of the Maldivian people despite the country's economic challenges.

The Vice President made the remarks in a post on X following the opening of the first completed section of the upgraded road to the public. The newly opened stretch extends from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Izzuddin Jetty area, where Boduthakurufaanu Magu has been widened to four lanes.

In his post, the Vice President said the redevelopment would significantly ease traffic congestion in Malé and improve travel for residents and commuters. He described the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project as a landmark development that would bring a historic transformation to the capital's waterfront.

He also thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for continuing to deliver major infrastructure projects that address the needs of the public and contribute to national development despite prevailing economic challenges.

Earlier on Friday, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) opened the upgraded section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to the public. While the road is now operational, MTCC said several minor works remain ongoing, including the installation of railings along the shoreline stairways and the placement of red-painted kerbstones to improve visibility around the steps.

The upgraded section was widened to four lanes following coastal reclamation and road construction works. Parking is prohibited along the new stretch to ensure smooth traffic flow, while a dedicated motorcycle parking area with capacity for 500 motorcycles has been established opposite the Bank of Maldives.
