President announces new sports facilities for Hulhumalé

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that construction of a modern bowling arena and dedicated indoor facilities for futsal and netball in Hulhumalé will begin in the coming days.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Pulse podcast, The Pulse, President Dr Muizzu said the Government is prioritising the development of sports infrastructure to promote healthy lifestyles and create more recreational opportunities for young people. He added that work is also underway to establish an international-standard surfing stadium in the Raalhugandu area.
As part of those efforts, land has been allocated in Hulhumalé Phase One for a state-of-the-art indoor bowling arena. The project has already been awarded, funding has been released to the contractor, and preliminary work is underway. President Dr Muizzu said construction will begin soon, with the facility expected to be completed next year.
The President also announced plans to develop a dedicated futsal complex in Hulhumalé. He said groundwork has already begun and that the facility will include an international-standard indoor court for competitions as well as additional courts for training. A separate netball complex, featuring dedicated netball courts, is also planned, with land allocated and funding released for the project.
In addition, work has begun on developing a go-kart arena in Hulhumalé as part of the Government's efforts to expand recreational facilities for young people.
President Dr Muizzu said construction of all the facilities will continue over the coming year, with the projects expected to be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2028.
