The Ministry of Social and Family Development plans to expand its successful Haalu Kihineh? welfare programme across the Maldives in 2024, following positive results from its initial phase in Hulhumale'.

Ministry officials have already visited more than 10,000 households across Hulhumale' and 14 atolls since the programme's launch in May 2023, Deputy Minister Nazeeha Ahmed announced to local media. The initiative aims to assess residents' wellbeing and provide targeted support services.

The programme has received widespread public approval, with residents welcoming the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with ministry officials.

A stakeholders' seminar is planned to analyse the collected data and enhance support services for families in need. The Ministry is collaborating with public service institutions, local councils and Women's Development Committees to achieve its goal of visiting every Maldivian household within a year.

Residents requiring immediate assistance can contact the Ministry's call centre at 1433, while household visits continue throughout the islands.

The programme's name Haalu Kihineh? reflects its mission to assess and respond to the welfare needs of Maldivian citizens through direct engagement and support services.
