The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy today hosted a stakeholder consultation with USAID's South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) to refine a new Energy Management Guide for Schools, an initiative aimed at transforming energy practises in educational institutions nationwide.
Speaking at the consultation, Dr Muaviyath Mohamed, Minister of State for Climate Change, Environment and Energy, emphasised the vital role of schools in shaping future generations' approach to energy consumption.
The comprehensive guide targets school administrators, maintenance staff, teachers, and students, outlining structured approaches to implement energy-efficient practises while improving classroom conditions.
Developed with SAREP's technical expertise, the guide features practical strategies for daily facility management and operation, emphasising both environmental impact reduction and cost savings. It focuses on enhancing thermal comfort and indoor air quality while promoting sustainable practices across educational institutions.
Education professionals and energy experts at the consultation provided feedback on the guide's implementation strategies, ensuring its effectiveness in real-world school settings. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the Government's broader efforts to promote sustainable practises.
SAREP, a flagship programme under the U.S. Government's Clean EDGE initiative, operates across six South Asian countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The partnership advances affordable and sustainable energy solutions while promoting regional collaboration in clean energy transition and climate change mitigation.
