Engineers improve lives beyond infrastructure: Ambassador Kong Xianhua

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, His Excellency Kong Xianhua, has commended engineers for their vital role in national development, stating that their impact extends far beyond physical infrastructure.
In remarks following the announcement of Engineers’ Day, the Ambassador highlighted that engineers play a fundamental role in shaping communities and improving the quality of life for the Maldivian people.
The President’s Office officially declared that August 30 will be observed annually as Engineers’ Day. The date commemorates the inauguration of the Sinamalé Bridge, also known as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, which remains the largest infrastructure project in the country’s history.
Ambassador Kong reflected on the significance of the bridge, describing it as a symbol of enduring cooperation between the Maldives and China. He noted that the structure, constructed by engineers from both nations, has brought meaningful improvements to the national economy and to the daily lives of Maldivians.
The President’s Office stated that August 30 was selected as a fitting tribute to the engineering profession, highlighting the Sinamalé Bridge’s scale and transformative impact as a lasting reminder of engineers’ contributions to national development.
