President Dr Mohamed Muizzu marked the International Day of Education with a message underscoring the transformative role of education in empowering individuals and the importance of integrating advanced technologies into the education system.

The President’s statement reflected this year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” and emphasised the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing education while safeguarding human values. He stressed the necessity for education and technology to align effectively in the modern era, especially in the context of the Maldives’ geographically dispersed island nation.

Highlighting the Maldives’ vision for the future, President Dr Muizzu stated that the country is working to integrate high-end e-learning resources, AI, and virtual reality into its educational system.

As part of this vision, the educational system is incorporating digital technology into curriculums by digitising textbooks and adopting a competency-based hybrid learning model. The President further emphasised the nation’s efforts to enhance STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education, aiming to spark creativity and inspire young minds,.

President Dr Muizzu expressed his gratitude to educators and others dedicated to the development of children and youth through education. “Today, while we reflect on the prominence of education, I sincerely express my gratitude to the educators and individuals in the educational continuum of this nation and beyond,” he remarked.

The President also took to his official ‘X’ account to commemorate International Day of Education, reiterating the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible education system.

The International Day of Education is observed annually on January 24 to recognise the role of education in peace and development worldwide.
