Multi-storey sports complex work to commence this year: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that construction of multi-storey sports complexes in Hulhumalé will commence this year.
Speaking during his Presidential Address for 2025, he highlighted the initiative as one of his key promises in the field of sports.
In addition to the sports complexes, the President added that work will also begin on a drifting stadium and an international surfing stadium in the city's raft area. These projects aim to enhance sports facilities and provide better opportunities for athletes and sports enthusiasts.
President Dr Muizzu highlighted that the multi-storey futsal complex and the multi-storey netball complex in Hulhumale’ as well as the drifting stadium and the international surfing stadium in Raalhugandu area are his presidential pledges, and the projects will commence this year.
As part of a long-term vision for sports development, the Government has prepared a 20-year national sports development plan following extensive discussions. Additionally, new health and safety standards for stadiums hosting national and international sporting events have been formulated, the President noted.
Emphasising the importance of fitness and physical activity for a happy and healthy life, President Dr Muizzu also revealed plans to establish high-quality children's parks, outdoor gyms, and fitness centres across all inhabited islands within the next two years.
