The damaged section of Ameenee Magu has reopened to the public following completion of repair works.

The road had been closed since January 11, 2025 for repairs undertaken by Road Development Corporation (RDC).

The rehabilitation work focused on the eastbound to westbound lane near the Maafannu Stadium area, specifically segments 11 and 12. This section was initially developed and opened in September 2023, but rapidly deteriorated, developing potholes that caused significant inconvenience to motorists.

Technical experts attributed the initial deterioration to premature opening of the road before proper curing of the asphalt – this time, authorities ensured adequate curing time before reopening the road to traffic. Traffic markings have also been completed.

The road improvements are part of a larger MVR 84.4 million government project that has modernised 1.79 kilometres of Ameenee Magu. The overall project was completed in January last year. The Government is now preparing to launch additional road modernisation projects in Malé and Vilimalé with Chinese grant assistance, with preliminary studies already completed.

The Ministry of Construction inspected the repaired section before approving its reopening to the public.
