The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified investors for the proposed Laamu Fonadhoo Port and Bunkering Project.

According to the ministry, the project aims to tap into regional maritime traffic by developing a multi-purpose port in Laamu Atoll, along with bunkering and maritime services infrastructure to position the Maldives as a key hub in the central Indian Ocean.

The preliminary concept for the project outlines the development of a deepwater port capable of serving cargo, tanker, and service vessels, along with bunkering services and fuel supply for transiting ships. It also includes plans for onshore and offshore fuel storage infrastructure, marine support facilities, a service quay with breakwaters for year-round operations, and reclaimed land to accommodate logistics, utilities, and support services.

Interested parties are required to submit their Expressions of Interest (EOIs) electronically by August 7, 2025, to [email protected].

Submissions must include the applicant’s contact details, company profile and capabilities, background on similar past projects, a proposed scope for the development, potential commercial activities at the site, and any concerns or suggestions regarding the project’s structuring.
