The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, has stated that the Government is committed to completing all ongoing water and sewerage projects within the next two years.
Speaking at Saturday night's Ahaa Ministerial Forum, organised by the President's Office and Public Service Media (PSM), Minister Thoriq explained that the Ministry is focused on developing regulations and policies related to water and sewerage systems. He also noted that the Ministy of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure is actively involved in implementing these projects.
The Minister stated that the primary goal of the joint efforts between the two Ministries is to ensure that water and sewerage facilities are provided to all islands across the country within the given timeframe. He reiterated that both Ministries are working closely to meet this objective and expressed confidence that the projects would be completed as planned.
He also highlighted the importance of considering demographic changes in certain islands when planning water and sanitation infrastructure. He pointed out that as population numbers increase in some areas, further development of water supply systems may be necessary. In response to this, the Environment Ministry and the Construction Ministry are working together to identify regions where additional facilities are required.
