The Election Commission (EC) is conducting its second awareness training programme in the atolls, aimed at educating communities on various election-related topics. The latest session began in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo.

The EC stated that the purpose of these civic awareness programmes is to inform the public about how elections are conducted and the reasons behind holding elections. The Commission also noted that the initiative seeks to increase public understanding of the democratic process and to encourage greater participation in electoral activities.

As part of the programme, participants are being introduced to the fundamental values of democracy. The sessions also cover key topics such as the separation of powers, individual rights, active participation, and patriotism. In addition, important information is being shared on accountability, the conduct of elections, and the workings of a multi-political party system.

The programme in Hanimaadhoo is being attended by representatives from various state institutions, companies, organisations, political parties, as well as members of the general public. Earlier, in May, the EC had organised a similar civic programme in Laamu Fonadhoo.
