With the new international passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) nearing completion, discussions have been held on upcoming traffic flow changes to accommodate the expansion.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) met to review adjustments needed for smoother operations once the terminal becomes operational.
According to the Transport Ministry, the meeting covered changes to the taxi queue system, adjustments to routes for taxis and four-wheelers, and designated parking areas for additional vehicles. Discussions also focused on the planned roundabout in the area and its role in improving traffic flow.
The new terminal, equipped with modern services and state-of-the-art facilities, is in its final stages of development, with efforts now focused on bringing it into operation.
In his Presidential Address 2025, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the terminal will be opened before October this year.
