First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Mahrajan Al-Qur'an Al-Kareem 1446’ programme on March 12, 2025, at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).

The event featured Qur'an recitations by three IUM students and a Qari from Egypt. Following the recitations, discussions on the Tafseer and themes of the recited verses were led by Dr Ali Zaahir, Vice Chancellor of IUM, Sheikh Abdul Azeez Hussain, lecturer at the Kulliyyah of Qur'an and Sunnah, and Nimal Mohamed, Dean of the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.

During the ceremony, the First Lady presented mementoes to the Qur'an reciters in recognition of their contributions.

The ‘Mahrajan Al-Qur'an Al-Kareem’ programme has been held annually since 2006, organised by the Kulliyyah of Qur'an and Sunnah at IUM. The event, which runs throughout the holy month of Ramadan, aims to promote the beautiful recitation (Maqamat) of the Qur'an and spread knowledge about its teachings.
