The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has concluded a training programme for preachers and imams in the Maldives, aimed at equipping them with the tools to combat terrorism and extremist ideologies.

Held from May 4 to 8, the initiative was organised in collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Centre and conducted under IMCTC’s ‘Wasata’ Programme. Religious leaders from across the Maldives participated in the training, which focused on promoting balanced messaging and strengthening community resilience.

The closing ceremony was attended by Chief of Maldives National Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, along with senior Government officials, agency representatives, and key stakeholders.

Participants described the programme as well-organised and insightful, with sessions covering critical topics such as countering extremist rhetoric, effective public communication, religious moderation, and enhancing speaking skills.

This training forms part of IMCTC’s broader strategy to foster cooperation among member states through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building. Such initiatives are designed to enhance national resilience and strengthen collective efforts against the evolving threat of extremism.
