TM services have now been established on all inhabited islands of Meemu Atoll, fulfilling a key pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to enhance banking access across the nation.

The rollout was completed this week with the launch of self-service ATMs in seven islands: Mulah, Naalaafushi, Kolhufushi, Dhiggaru, Maduvvari, Veyvah, and Raimmandhoo. The atoll’s capital, Muli, has offered ATM services for several years.

The new facilities were officially inaugurated by the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar. He was joined by Bank of Maldives (BML) CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, alongside senior BML officials and local council members.

Each location is now equipped with 24/7 self-service ATMs, offering both cash withdrawal and deposit services. The initiative aims to strengthen financial inclusion in remote communities and support wider economic participation.

According to the Government, the expansion is part of a broader strategy to ensure nationwide access to essential banking services by the end of the year, in collaboration with BML. Meemu Atoll joins Dhaalu and Noonu as regions with complete ATM coverage.

Recent figures from the central bank underscore the growing adoption of ATM services in the islands. On 14 April, it was reported that MVR 25 million had been deposited through ATMs in Dhaalu Atoll alone — a strong indicator of community engagement with the service.
