Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) announced that Velana International Airport (VIA) has implemented special arrangements for Maldivian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

The arrangements, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Maldives Hajj Corporation, and other relevant authorities, aim to ensure a smooth travel experience for the 1,000 pilgrims departing on four flights operated by Saudi Arabian Airlines and Maldivian. The flights are scheduled for May 26, 27, 29 and 30.

To manage increased passenger flow and ease congestion, MACL has restricted vehicle access to the international terminal only. Dedicated staff will assist pilgrims with terminal access and check-in procedures.

A special waiting area has also been arranged for families accompanying the pilgrims. In addition, a designated photo area has been set up at the airport for families to take pictures with their loved ones before departure.

MACL further announced that, with the activation of the Makkah Route Initiative at VIA to support the pilgrimage, a dedicated Saudi immigration counter will be in operation for departing pilgrims.

Passengers travelling for other purposes are urged to complete check-in procedures as swiftly as possible, particularly during peak pilgrimage departure times. MACL also requested that individuals coming to see off pilgrims adhere to staff instructions to minimise congestion within the terminal.
