Uz Mohamed Azmee and Uz Mohamed Shafeeu have been elected to the Executive Committee of the Bar Council of the Maldives, following the council’s most recent election held on Monday.
The official results were announced and gazetted by the Bar Council on the same day. A total of 1,078 ordinary members were registered to vote in the election, which was conducted through a secret ballot among licensed legal practitioners in the Maldives.
Uz Azmee secured 132 votes in favour, with 96 voting against, from a total of 228 ballots cast. Uz Shafeeu received stronger backing, with 270 votes in favour and 39 against, from a total of 309 votes. The Bar Council formally confirmed both candidates as having been elected to the Executive Committee.
The election was held as the current term of the Vice-President and four other Executive Committee members nears completion. In line with the Legal Profession Act, the Bar Council is required to conduct elections to maintain the composition of its Executive Committee, which is responsible for the administration and governance of the council. Members elected to the committee serve a term of three years.
Elections for the position of Vice-President and additional Executive Committee members are also scheduled to follow, with the deadline for submitting applications set for June 15, 2025.
