The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has revised the land use plan for Gulhifalhu, prompting a reallocation of plots previously distributed under the government’s landowner scheme.

According to a notice issued by the Ministry in the Government Gazette on May 29, the updated plot allocation process will resume at 14:30 on May 30. The revision follows public feedback on the initial land use plan, which was gazetted on May, 15. Further discussions were held with the union representing landholders before finalising the revised layout.

Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib confirmed that changes in the layout have affected the size and number of some previously allotted plots. The reallocation aims to ensure a fair and accurate distribution of land under the new plan.

The updated distribution includes:

  • 684 plots measuring 1,250 sq ft
  • 1,242 plots measuring 1,650 sq ft
  • 923 plots measuring 2,050 sq ft
  • 479 plots measuring 2,450 sq ft
  • 158 plots measuring 2,850 sq ft
  • 49 plots measuring 3,250 sq ft
  • 22 plots measuring 3,650 sq ft

Only one representative per plot will be allowed to attend the reallocation site. If a third party is appearing on behalf of a landholder, they must present a letter of authorisation along with a copy of the landholder’s identification card. Plot details are being communicated via the Government’s Hiyaavehi Portal and SMS notifications.

The revised plan forms part of the Government’s broader infrastructure agenda. Minister Dr Muththalib has stated that USD 200 million has already been invested in land reclamation at Gulhifalhu, with a further USD 400 million planned for developing essential utilities and services. The overall rehabilitation and development cost is expected to reach USD 700 million.
