Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to deepening bilateral ties with the Republic of Tajikistan, with a focus on shared priorities in agriculture, tourism and climate resilience.

The Vice President, who is in Tajikistan to attend the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation, made the remarks during a courtesy call with Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.

During the meeting, the two leaders held extensive discussions on enhancing cooperation across key sectors. In particular, they emphasised the potential of agricultural collaboration to promote food security and support economic diversification in both nations.

Tourism also emerged as a promising area of mutual interest. Minister Rasulzoda commended the Maldives' globally recognised tourism sector and expressed interest in leveraging Maldivian expertise to support the development of Tajikistan’s emerging tourism industry.

Environmental cooperation featured prominently in the dialogue, with both leaders acknowledging the Maldives’ vulnerability to climate change, especially the threat posed by rising sea levels. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration on climate adaptation and sustainable development in line with their environmental goals.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Vice President Latheef and Minister Rasulzoda pledged to continue working together to advance initiatives that deliver mutual benefits.

The Vice President also attended an official reception hosted by the Government of Tajikistan in honour of the international delegates at the glacier preservation conference. During the event, he engaged with senior officials and representatives from various countries, exchanging views on global strategies to address the urgent and escalating impact of climate change on glacial ecosystems.
