Vice President concludes his official visit to Tajikistan

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has concluded his official visit to Tajikistan, where he participated in the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation, held from May 29 to 31.
The visit reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to international climate dialogue and its resolve to strengthen partnerships for sustainable development.
During the conference, the Vice President delivered a statement at the opening session, calling for urgent and unified global action. He urged all countries to submit updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) ahead of COP30, stressing the need for greater ambition, transparency, and urgency. He emphasised the Maldives’ deep concern over the accelerating loss of glaciers and its far-reaching implications for vulnerable nations and the broader international community.
The Vice President also attended a reception hosted by the Tajik Government for delegates of the High-Level Conference on Glacier Preservation. He engaged with high-level officials from various countries, discussing shared concerns over climate change and its severe effects on glacial ecosystems.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Vice President paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Kokhir Rasulzoda. Their discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in climate change, agriculture, and tourism. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and addressing shared development goals.
