President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm Republic Day greetings to Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu described Italy’s Republic Day as a symbol of the Italian people’s struggle for freedom and justice. He praised the continued preservation of these democratic values.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his best wishes to President Mattarella. He acknowledged the recent strengthening of bilateral cooperation, particularly in tourism, culture, and education, and expressed his commitment to further enhancing relations in the years ahead.

In a separate message to Prime Minister Meloni, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966. He noted Italy’s pivotal role in the development of the Maldivian tourism industry and expressed appreciation for Italy remaining one of the Maldives’ top five tourist markets over the past three years.

President Dr Muizzu concluded by reaffirming his intent to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
